Data Center Technician
Location: Berkeley, WV

Reports To: Data Center Manager / Site Superintendent / Lead Technician
Position Summary
The Data Center Technician – Cable Infrastructure supports day-to-day data center operations with a primary focus on cable pulling and pathway installation. This is a hands-on, physically demanding role responsible for installing structured cabling in accordance with data center standards, safety requirements, and project specifications. The technician will work in both active and new data center environments where organization and attention to detail are critical.
Primary Responsibilities
Cable Pulling & Pathway Installation (Primary Focus)
Pull copper and fiber optic cabling through overhead and underfloor pathways
Support large-scale cable pulls in live and construction data halls
Install and work within cable tray, ladder rack, J-hooks, and conduit systems
Route, bundle, and secure cabling per drawings and data center standards
Maintain proper bend radius, separation, and cable management practices
Installation Support
Assist with cable routing and dressing in racks and cabinets
Support senior technicians and installers during installations
Identify and report damaged cable, pathway issues, or site constraints
Quality & Housekeeping
Maintain clean, organized work areas at all times
Assist with basic labeling and documentation
Ensure all work meets data center quality and appearance standards
Safety & Compliance
Follow all site safety rules, OSHA standards, and company policies
Use PPE and proper lifting techniques during cable pulls
Participate in daily safety briefings and toolbox talks
Required Qualifications
1–3 years of experience in data centers, low-voltage, or commercial construction (or strong willingness to learn)
Experience with or exposure to cable pulling in commercial or industrial environments
Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and overhead tray systems
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive physical tasks
Preferred Qualifications
Data center experience strongly preferred
Familiarity with copper and fiber optic cabling
OSHA 10 certification
BICSI Installer Level I or higher is a plus
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Physically demanding role with frequent bending, lifting, and overhead work
Active data center and construction environments
May require night shifts, weekend work, or extended hours based on project needs
