Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Fire Alarm System Designer to join our team. This role involves designing and engineering fire alarm systems in compliance with NFPA codes and project specifications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating accurate and timely fire alarm designs, while also ensuring that the systems are tailored to meet both customer and code requirements. The designer will collaborate closely with AutoCAD drafters, project managers, and sales teams to ensure seamless project execution. This role demands strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site surveys to assess project needs.
  • Design fire alarm systems in compliance with NFPA standards and project requirements, working alongside the design team and drafters as needed.
  • Utilize AutoCAD software to develop floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, system power calculations, and control panel layouts.
  • Review and verify all designs to ensure they meet company standards and code requirements before submitting for approval.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures during daily tasks and activities.
  • Collaborate with sales and project managers to optimize designs, ensuring high quality and efficiency.
  • Provide feedback and support to sales and project managers in organizing, planning, and prioritizing tasks.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a quality service program to enhance the efficiency and proficiency of the design and engineering team.
  • Visit ongoing projects as necessary to ensure smooth execution.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or college degree is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in designing commercial fire detection systems.
  • NICET Level II certification in Fire Alarm required, with plans to obtain Level III certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of fire protection codes and operations.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and other design software.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 72 inspection, testing, and troubleshooting requirements.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and the International Fire Code (IFC).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply fire alarm project drawings and specifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Willingness to travel for overnight assignments when necessary.
  • Excellent social skills, including customer service, coordination, persuasion, and instruction.
  • Knowledge of fire suppression and security system design is a plus.
